He's 22 years old and had his pilot's license for just 8 months, and today he decided to volunteer to fly a Shepard mix to a new home. Dave Weyrauch, of Naples Florida, owns a German Shepard himself.
However this german shepard mix, who he nicknamed "Marshall", was part of a litter of three puppies that an owner turned into to a shelter in West Palm Beach, Florida. The owner admitted to being a backyard breeder but quickly found out it was costing more money than he had expected. He turned the litter into a local shelter, where within two days... two of the three puppies had died from a common respiratory disease.
One of the shelter volunteers found a home for the surviving puppy in Naples, Florida. She contacted Canine Rescue Flights to see if we could help get the puppy to his new home. Dave to the rescue! Dave loved the idea of a flying "adventure" with a real benefit - saving a life. Dave packed up his rented Cessna 152 and flew off to West Palm Beach's F45 airport to pick up this lone puppy. Upon returning to Naples airport he was met by Kristine, who had adopted the puppy.
This was Dave's first volunteer rescue flight and he hopes to join in on many more in the future. Congratulations Dave! And thank you.
